Red Political Femmes Fatales, see below re London Student Riots yesterday brought to mind a great heroine of Welsh Radical History, even if she only had her 15 Minutes of fame? On 19 June 1843 A Rebecca Demonstration was called to take place in Carmarthen, 1000's marched on and into the town under the banner CYFIAWNDER! Once in the Town the 'Lumpen Proletariat' hi-jacked the demonstration and led it in an attack on the Work House. There a young women a Frances Evans a farm servant who had recently given birth to an illegitimate baby, possibly kicked out of her job she ended up in the Work House. Now came her 15 Minutes, as the crowd burst in Frances stood on a table and did a wild dance and called for the crowd to continue wrecking the place. I think Frances deserves a statue too or at least some one out there with artistic talent do an illustration of this for a Protest Banner and Placards under the Slogan CYFIAWNDER!
