A WELSH SOCIALIST HISTORY OF PEASANTS, PAUPERS & POPULAR REVOLT More Useful To The Present Motivating Of Peoples Protest Than The History of Princes.

Not Least What About The Workers?

Some personal revisionism is needed, from this 'high hill' position of my Grey Beard Years with my political retirement on the horizon, not totally but less blogging and more archiving away plus publishing of books intended. Am not very other wise active these days other than running around researching though from time to time do what little I can in way of 'Autonomous Action' as at Llyn Efyrnwy last weekend, see link below:

Take note in this Cofiwn Blog other October Posts regards the Amlwch Troubles 1817 and other 'moving left' material more suited to a 'Cofiwn Goch' maybe? This Cofiwn blog will also present to you my patriotic Cymric Consciousness Campaigning mainly in medieval areas of interest and enthusiasm. Such I am now leaving to my intended publications, farming out unfinnished projects or generally leaving to WAG/MofH and Cadw and their New Welsh History Strategy, EU - HT Princes and Marcher Lords Initiatives also see the recent Western Mail History Month and Welsh History Research Project. Another blog of back ground interest might be my I'r Gad Welsh Battlefield Campaign, no apolagies for my interest in such history although now whilst I consider 1282 a good starting point even for a Welsh Socialist History particularly focusing on the first Welsh Popular Revolt 1294. Followed by the Southern Revolt of Llywelyn Bren and the Northern Troubles of 1345 as comparable to popular revolts in Europe during the 14th Century, in Wales leading up to the Owain Glyndwr Anti - Colonial War of National Liberation, very much a Welsh Peasants War to a great extent.

However, we need something more 'out there' and 'on the street' as Cofiwn was for many years, we now need to be more active with Welsh Socialist Consciousness Campaigning and Commemorations plus Plaques and Memorials as regards the Amlwch Revolt 1817, Rhyfel y Sais Bach 1826, The Battle of Cinder Hill 1830 and of course regards the Merthyr Massacre 3 June 1831 and not least the much forgotten Edward Morgan and Tarw Scotch needs remembrance. Otherwise Commemorations appear to be well taken care of as example the Chartists 1839, Tonypandy 1910 and next year Llanelli Riots 1911, see blog link below:

What then? much research, needs to be done regards Welsh Socialist Struggles of the 'Thirties', not least in 1935 and 1936 but also remember the Maerdy Riots of 1931 after which 29 men and four women were imprisoned, Bedwas Riots 1933 Seven Men and four women imprisoned, 1935 a number of riots associated with the Stay Down Strikes at Blaina and Bedlinog. These 'Stay Down Disturbences' led to the trial of 53 Men and three women all of whom were found guilty; 21 were bound over and the rest imprisoned, let us not forget the Merthyr Womens 'uprising' in 1935 with attack upon the offices of the National Assistence Board and destruction of 'Means Test' records.

In 1936 there were Anti Fascist Riots in Tonypandy after which six men and one women were imprisoned, maybe a commemoration of this event could cause some motivation for an initiative to commemorate the 1936 - 2011, 75th Anniversary of Wales and the Spanish Civil War. Thus quite a lot to be done, yes Llafur does a lot but they are quite 'Academic' in what they do and that's needed but we also need something more 'public & popular' in promotion of Interest and Information on Welsh Socialist History as a 'Red Remembrance' body/Society (not a Facebook please), a kind of 'Cofiwn Goch' Welsh Socialist History in Action! Anyway, think on it! Priority some attention on why Cultural Nationalist Wales supported the 1911 Investiture but Socialist Southern Wales did not with Llanelli and Merthyr Tudful leading way in opposition to Coronation and Investiture Celebrations. Further, why not comparative study of Welsh Nationalism in the 'Thirties' focusing then on Saunders Lewis and the 1936 Burning of the Bombing School.

So much devides Nationalists and Socialists in Wales, 1936 means different focus for attention as seen from above. Recently Nationalists Commemorated the 45th Anniversary of the opening of the Tryweryn Reservoir whilst Socialists will consider next years 45th Annversary of the 1966 Aberfan disaster as more important in their contemporary history. The truth is that whilst a majority of Nationalists are willing to accept 'Socialism', few Socialists will accept what they view as 'Nationalistic'. What Wales needs is a Welsh James Connoly who can see both views of history and accomodate the diffrences in a Socialist History of Wales that would allow for there to come into existence a Welsh Socialist Anti - Colonial Liberation Movement and Struggle. I am always bemused to see how English, Scots and Anglo - Welsh Socialists can support Irish, Catalan and Socialist Liberation struggles but make such heavy weather of supporting same in Wales, why's that? Ignorence or just bloody mindedness? or are some 'Metro - Socialists' just useing Wales, Welsh People and Workers to their own political ends as the British Labour Party has done for far too many years to remember.

At end of the day they let Wales down as the Nationalists will for sure, so we need something else in between desperatly but what, a reestablished Welsh Socialist Republican Movement or maybe something new as a Welsh Popular Front in the first instance, then a Progressive Party perhaps? However, I guess the Welsh Socialist History will have to come first as a ground breaker and platform for discussion and Debate, that I will leave to others as I think the hard times ahead will require the unity of all, if we are to engage in full United Action of Welsh Resistence to the Tory Coalition Governments aggressive Colonial Cuts inflicted on Wales. Although, I suggest any Progressive Nationalists and Socialists who are up for some united action why not launch the WELSH RESISTENCE TO THE TORY ECONOMIC OPPRESSION OF WALES in an all day Protest Picket at the Welsh Assembly on the 4th November anniversary day of the Newport 1839 Rising, what day could be more suitable?
