For me 'Seventies Soul' was a continuation of my interest in 'Sixtes Soul' prompted by non poltical teen age interest in songs of Little Richard, then other than 'Motown' plus Chubby Checker and Sam Brown and the Twist, that went down hysterically with the girls working in the Textile Factory I worked in. Other favs were Diana Ross and Mary Wells on the other hand I had an interest in the Beach Boys. Of duos of course Ike and Tina Turner also Sonny and Cher, on whole had little interest in English Bands or for that matter 'Canu Cymraeg'. The music background to my years of revolutionary struggle from 'sixties' PF and FWA to 'Seventies' Welsh Socialist Vanguard and Cymru Goch I was American Music, not so much protest even untill the 'Seventies'. Guess I was 'acculturalised' if not 'anglicised', the former was unavoidable for an 'English Speakng Hwntw Youth, the latter was politicized to death as a bye product of becoming a Welsh Patriot. This brings to mind a great series on TV American Folk, a must see three episodes, damn it, I missed the last episode from folk to protest:
